West Indies Defeat Pakistan, Secure Series Draw

West Indies Clinch Historic Test Win Against Pakistan, Level Series 1-1

West Indies ended a 33-year drought in Pakistan with a commanding 120-run victory in the second Test in Multan on Monday, leveling the two-match series 1-1. This marked their first Test win on Pakistani soil since 1990, achieved through a disciplined bowling effort led by Jomel Warrican.

Day 3: West Indies Dominate with Spin
Resuming at 76-4, Pakistan faced a daunting target of 178 runs. However, their hopes were quickly dashed as the West Indies spinners tore through the lower order. Saud Shakeel (13) and Kashif Ali (1) fell early, undone by Kevin Sinclair and Warrican.

Mohammad Rizwan provided brief resistance, scoring 25 off 62 balls and forging a 39-run partnership with Salman Agha. But Warrican’s persistence paid off as he removed Rizwan with a delivery that pierced the bat-pad gap and shattered the stumps.

From there, the collapse was swift. Gudakesh Motie dismissed Noman Ali, and Warrican fittingly sealed the win by bowling Sajid Khan, completing his second five-wicket haul of the match. Pakistan were bundled out for 133, falling well short of the target.

Warrican’s Star Performance
Jomel Warrican was the standout performer, earning both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honors. His nine wickets in the match, including 5-27 in the second innings, played a pivotal role in West Indies’ victory. Reflecting on his success, Warrican said, “Consistency is the key. It’s about varying pace and hitting the same length over and over.”

West Indies’ Journey to Victory
West Indies’ innings were built on crucial contributions from their batters. Kraigg Brathwaite (52) and Tevin Imlach (35) helped set a second-innings target of 244. Earlier, Gudakesh Motie (55) and Warrican (36) had rescued their first innings, helping the visitors post a competitive 166 despite Noman Ali’s 6-41.

In response, Pakistan struggled to build momentum in both innings. Mohammad Rizwan’s 49 in the first innings and Babar Azam’s 31 in the second were the only notable contributions. The spin trio of Warrican, Motie, and Sinclair exploited the conditions expertly, taking all 20 wickets.

Captain’s Remarks
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite expressed pride in the young team’s performance. “We haven’t won here in decades, so to do it as a young group is incredible,” he said. “On this pitch, there’s always a ball with your name on it. We stuck to our plans and executed well. This experience will help us in the long run.”
