White Sox Sign Martin Perez, Designate Ron Marinaccio for Assignment

The Chicago White Sox have officially signed left-handed starting pitcher Martin Perez to a one-year deal worth $5 million. The agreement, finalized on Tuesday, also includes a mutual option for the 2026 season.

A Seasoned Veteran Joins the Rotation

Perez, 33, is coming off a 2024 campaign split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres. He began the year with Pittsburgh before being traded to San Diego at the midseason deadline. The move to Chicago marks Perez’s fourth team in three seasons, as he continues to bring veteran experience to every rotation he joins.

Notably, Perez earned his first All-Star selection in 2022 while pitching for the Texas Rangers. That year, he posted a career-best 2.89 ERA over 32 starts, compiling a 12-8 record and throwing one shutout. He followed that standout performance with a 10-4 record in 2023, serving as a part-time starter and playing a role in Texas’s World Series victory.

Career Overview and Role with the White Sox

Over his career, Perez has pitched in 314 major league games, including 269 starts, across stints with the Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Pirates, and Padres. He holds a lifetime record of 90-87 with a 4.44 ERA, tallying 1,109 strikeouts and 568 walks across 1,575 2/3 innings. The White Sox will look to Perez to bring stability to their rotation while also providing a seasoned presence for younger pitchers on the staff.

Roster Move: Marinaccio Designated for Assignment

To make room for Perez on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed reliever Ron Marinaccio for assignment. Marinaccio was claimed off waivers from the New York Yankees in late September but never appeared in a game for Chicago. His designation clears a path for Perez’s arrival and highlights the ongoing adjustments the White Sox are making to their pitching staff as they prepare for the 2025 season.
