Uihlein Leads Heading into Final Round at International Series Qatar
DOHA, Qatar – LIV Golf star Peter Uihlein, who represented RangeGoats GC in 2024, fired a 1-under 71 to seize a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the US$2.5 million International Series Qatar. He sits at 13-under through three rounds at Doha Golf Club, with Zach Bauchou in solo second place after a 2-under 70 on Saturday.
Several fellow LIV Golf members from 2024 remain in contention, including Stinger GC Captain Louis Oosthuizen, who is tied for 5th, five shots off the lead. Other LIV Golf players eyeing a strong finish in the final round are Eugenio Chacarra, David Puig, and Charl Schwartzel, all tied for 7th and six shots behind the leader.
Also in the mix are Patrick Reed and Anirban Lahiri, both tied for 12th, while Branden Grace, Kieran Vincent, Dean Burmester, and Scott Vincent sit tied for 16th. Jinichiro Kozuma, Thomas Pieters, Kalle Samooja, Brendan Steele, and Matt Jones are further down the leaderboard, while Anthony Kim, playing as a Wild Card, is tied for 49th.
LIV Golf reserve player John Catlin, who shot a 2-under 70, is tied for 27th and is inching closer to claiming the Asian Tour Order of Merit title, with none of his closest competitors posing a serious challenge.
Uihlein, who narrowly missed out on victory at the International Series Thailand just over a month ago, started the day with a two-shot advantage over Bauchou. He maintained that lead through the turn, despite making birdie on the first hole and bogeys on the 3rd and 14th.
“It was hard, but I’m pleased with how I played,” Uihlein said. “I hit 16 greens, so my two bogeys came from missed greens. Other than that, it was pretty steady. I never really felt out of position. The wind and tough conditions made it a challenging day. The greens had more bite today, and it was tough to get close to the pins.”
Uihlein is also in the running to win The International Series Rankings, currently sitting in 4th place, with a chance to overtake John Catlin with a win in the final event, the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers, next week.
Bauchou, who has been competing on the Korn Ferry Tour, also had a strong finish with birdies on holes 13, 16, and 18.
“It was a tough day,” Bauchou acknowledged. “It was hard to get close to the hole, and there are only a few birdieable spots. You just have to grind out pars and take advantage of the par 5s and the driveable 16th. Tomorrow, I’ll stay aggressive and try to play my best.”
