Neymar Departs Al-Hilal by Mutual Agreement
Brazilian football star Neymar has officially parted ways with Al-Hilal by mutual consent, the Saudi Pro League champions announced on Monday. This decision marks the end of a brief and challenging chapter for Brazil’s all-time leading scorer at the club.
The 32-year-old’s stint at Al-Hilal was marred by injuries, most notably a severe knee injury sustained during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023. The injury sidelined him for months, preventing him from returning to peak performance.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the club confirmed: “Al-Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr. have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent.”
Neymar joined Al-Hilal in August 2023 from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a reported fee of €90 million ($98 million). However, his impact was limited, featuring in just seven matches for the Saudi side before his injury.
Reports from Brazilian media suggest that Neymar is considering a return to his boyhood club Santos, where he began his professional career before making his move to Europe in 2013 to join Barcelona.
Neymar made global headlines in 2017 when he moved from Barcelona to PSG for a record-breaking transfer fee of €222 million. Despite his struggles in Saudi Arabia, Neymar remains one of the most recognizable and accomplished figures in modern football, with 79 goals for Brazil to his name.
His departure signals a potential new chapter in his illustrious career, with fans eagerly anticipating his next move.
