Kinhult takes three-shot lead at Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult shot a 68 in his second round at the Alfred Dunhill Championship on Friday, extending his lead to three shots at the halfway point of the tournament. The 28-year-old made seven birdies but also recorded three bogeys, finishing the day at 11 under-par overall. His performance has given him some breathing room ahead of a trio of players tied for second at 8 under-par: South Africa’s Dean Burmester (67), England’s Dale Whitnell (67), and Italy’s Andrea Pavan (69).

Kinhult, who is seeking his second win on the DP World Tour, previously won the 2019 British Masters. Despite the sweltering heat at Leopard Creek Country Club, he managed to hold his own, though he was forced to use an umbrella to shield himself from the sun after the first few holes.

“It was hot,” Kinhult said after his round. “It was actually OK this morning, but after five or six holes, I got the umbrella up and tried to hide under that for most of the day. It was a good score today, and I’m looking forward to the next two rounds. Hopefully, we can keep improving and see where that takes us.”

Overnight leader Andy Sullivan, who had shot an impressive 64 on Thursday, struggled in the second round with a 73, leaving him four shots behind Kinhult.
