Tiger Woods Withdraws from Hero World Challenge Comeback

Tiger Woods Withdraws from Hero World Challenge Due to Injury

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will not compete in this year’s Hero World Challenge, citing ongoing recovery from back surgery performed in September. The 15-time major champion announced his decision via social media on Monday, expressing disappointment but emphasizing his excitement to host the event.

Woods has faced significant physical challenges in recent years, with injuries limiting him to just 11 competitive starts since his February 2021 car accident. His 2024 season was marred by persistent back spasms and pain, culminating in surgery aimed at alleviating the discomfort. Despite his efforts, Woods struggled in major tournaments this year, missing the cut in three of the four events and finishing last among those who made the cut at The Masters.

Hopes of a return at the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship, where he planned to partner with his son Charlie, have been dashed. However, Woods remains committed to his role as tournament host, welcoming exemptions Justin Thomas, Jason Day, and Nick Dunlap into the elite 20-player field.

In his post, Woods stated, “I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host and spending the week with Hero MotoCorp.”

The Hero World Challenge will take place from December 5 to December 8 in the Bahamas and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. While Woods won’t be competing, his presence as host ensures the event remains a highlight of the golfing calendar.
