Arkansas Freshman Boogie Fland Likely Out for Season with Hand Injury
Arkansas freshman guard Boogie Fland, a projected lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a hand injury. The injury occurred on January 11 during a loss to Florida, where Fland fell on the court and his hand was accidentally stepped on by teammate Billy Richmond III. Despite his efforts to continue playing in subsequent games, Fland struggled, shooting a combined 8-for-30.
Head coach John Calipari addressed the injury last week, emphasizing the importance of proper recovery. “We’ll make sure we get that thing right,” Calipari said. CBS Sports was the first to report that Fland would be sidelined for the rest of the season. Calipari later added, “His hand is pretty bad. Don’t know what we’ll do going forward.”
Fland, who originally committed to Kentucky under Calipari, followed the coach to Arkansas alongside several transfers from the Wildcats. In his freshman season, he emerged as a key player, averaging 15.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Without Fland, the Razorbacks will likely rely more on transfers D.J. Wagner and Johnell Davis. Wagner is averaging 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, while Davis has been logging nearly 30 minutes per game but has struggled with turnovers, recording 27 compared to 23 assists.
Fland was already ruled out for Wednesday’s game against Georgia (14-4) after managing just four points in an 83-point outing on Saturday. Arkansas now faces the challenge of maintaining their competitive edge in Fland’s absence as the season progresses.
