Mariners ink INF Donovan Solano for 2024

Seattle Mariners Sign Donovan Solano to One-Year Deal

The Seattle Mariners have added experienced infielder Donovan Solano to their roster, signing him to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million, as reported on Monday. Solano, a versatile utility player, is capable of covering all four infield positions as well as left field, making him a valuable addition to the Mariners’ depth chart.

A Proven Veteran

The Mariners will be the seventh team in Solano’s MLB career. The 37-year-old showcased his consistent hitting ability in 2024 with the San Diego Padres, achieving a .286 batting average, a career-high eight home runs, and 35 RBIs across 96 games. Over his career spanning 916 games, Solano holds a .279 batting average with 40 home runs and 279 RBIs. His previous teams include the Miami Marlins (2012–2015), New York Yankees (2016), San Francisco Giants (2019–2021), Cincinnati Reds (2022), Minnesota Twins (2023), and Padres.

Mariners’ Roster Adjustment

To make room for Solano, the Mariners designated left-handed pitcher Austin Kitchen for assignment. Kitchen, 27, struggled in limited appearances last season, posting a 14.14 ERA in four games (one start) for the Miami Marlins. After being designated for assignment by Miami on September 7, he was claimed off waivers by Seattle two days later.

With this signing, the Mariners continue to bolster their roster for the upcoming season, aiming to enhance their defensive flexibility and veteran presence.
