Bayern Munich Without Manuel Neuer for Champions League Clash Against Inter Milan
Bayern Munich have confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will miss their crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Inter Milan on Wednesday due to injury. The 39-year-old shot-stopper has not recovered in time from a lingering calf issue and will remain sidelined despite traveling with the team to Italy for moral support.
Neuer has been out for over a month, and while there was initial optimism about his return for the high-stakes clash at the San Siro — especially following Bayern’s narrow 2-1 home defeat in the first leg — the club announced on Tuesday that he will not feature in the squad.
“Manuel Neuer will not play due to injury but will travel to Milan with the team in order to support it,” the club said in an official statement.
Bayern’s injury list doesn’t stop with Neuer. Midfielder Jamal Musiala and defenders Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are also unavailable, adding to the challenges coach Thomas Tuchel faces ahead of a match that could define their European campaign.
With a semi-final spot on the line, Bayern must overturn the first-leg deficit against an Inter side in strong form. The winner of the tie will go on to face either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the last four.
Despite the injury woes, Bayern remain in control domestically. They sit at the top of the Bundesliga with a six-point cushion and just five games remaining in the league — keeping their hopes of a league and European double alive, if they can pull off a comeback in Milan.
