Girona dominate Valladolid, ending their frustrating winless streak

Girona Ends Winless Streak with a Convincing 3-0 Victory Over Valladolid

Girona snapped a six-game winless streak across all competitions with a commanding 3-0 LaLiga victory over relegation-threatened Real Valladolid on Friday. Goals from David Lopez, Abel Ruiz, and Arnaut Danjuma highlighted a dominant performance at home, propelling Girona to eighth place in the table with 25 points. Valladolid remains mired in relegation trouble, sitting second-bottom with 12 points, four points shy of safety.

Dominance from the Start

Girona controlled the game from the opening whistle and broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark. Miguel Gutierrez delivered a free kick that deflected off David Lopez and soared into the top corner. Reflecting on his goal, Lopez said, “It’s not the best goal of my career, but at the end of the season, it counts. We dominated the entire match and played well at home.”

Abel Ruiz doubled Girona’s lead in the 39th minute, connecting with another pinpoint cross from Gutierrez for a close-range header. The hosts sealed the win in the 81st minute when Dutch winger Arnaut Danjuma, coming off the bench, scored his first goal for the club with a clinical first-time finish.

Valladolid Struggles Continue

Real Valladolid struggled to find any rhythm, registering just one shot throughout the match. The defeat marks their 12th in 18 league games and the first under new coach Diego Cocca, who faces a daunting task to steer his team out of relegation danger. Speaking after the game, Valladolid right-back Lucas Rosa remained optimistic, stating, “We will believe until the end. Next year, we have to be all together and have a lot of self-criticism.”

Looking Ahead

The victory provides Girona with renewed confidence and much-needed breathing room in the competitive LaLiga table. For Valladolid, the loss underscores their continued struggles and the uphill battle ahead to avoid relegation. Both teams will aim to regroup as they prepare for their next fixtures.
