Anthony Edwards didn’t hold back following the Timberwolves’ latest defeat, a 115-104 loss to the Sacramento Kings, which dropped Minnesota to 12th place in the Western Conference standings. The team that entered the season with high hopes of building on last year’s unexpected Western Conference Finals appearance now finds itself struggling just to stay in playoff contention.
In a fiery post-game rant, Edwards criticized his teammates, calling out the entire team—including himself—for a lack of unity and accountability. This loss marked their fourth straight, and it’s clear Edwards is frustrated with both the team’s performance and the overall atmosphere within the locker room.
“We got up and everybody’s cheering and hyped, but when we get down again, nobody says anything. That’s the definition of a front-runner,” Edwards said. “We were all front-runners tonight. It was some bullshit, for sure.”
Edwards didn’t stop there. He painted a grim picture of the team’s current dynamics, stating that the Timberwolves are growing apart and losing their sense of togetherness. “All 15 of us are going into our own shells,” he said. “It’s obvious. We can see it. I can see it, the team can see it, the coaches can see it.”
He also expressed his frustration with the lack of communication and maturity on the team, comparing the situation to playing with “a bunch of little kids.” “We just can’t talk to each other, and we’ve got to figure it out because we can’t go down this road,” Edwards added.
The situation took a sour turn as the Timberwolves, after a strong third quarter, completely collapsed in the final stretch. The Kings ended the game on a 29-6 run, including scoring on ten straight possessions, sealing the victory. This crushing defeat comes at a time when the Timberwolves have been struggling to regain the chemistry that propelled them last season.
The loss drops the Timberwolves to an 8-10 record, with their defense falling from first in the league last season to 12th. While there are no major injuries to account for the struggles, the team’s disarray—particularly following the offseason trade of Karl-Anthony Towns—has left them reeling.
Edwards’ blunt comments might be the wake-up call the team needs, but if they don’t respond quickly, the Timberwolves’ season could spiral further out of control. Whether his public criticism lights a fire under the team remains to be seen, but with the current trajectory, things are looking bleak for Minnesota.
